Ms. Flores taught her students how to make Mexican chilaquiles verdes with chicken, cheese, and sour cream. They also tried agua de horchata which is very popular in Mexico. It is made with rice, cinnamon, and milk.

BENEDICTINES & THE BAHAMAS: In 1946, the Benedictine monks of St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, MN, founded St Augustine’s College, Monastery & Church in Nassau, Bahamas. The monastery closed in 2006, but the connection between the Benedictines and the Bahamas has continued. On December 11th, the honorable Phillip Davis, Prime Minister of the Bahamas, spoke at St. John’s University as part of the Eugene J. McCarthy Lecture series. He was joined by many students from his country that attend St. John's University. Our Subiaco Brother Sebastian (attending seminary at St. John's) was able to meet the Prime Minister and show him a photo of the wonderful students from his country that attend our Benedictine college-prep Academy of Subiaco. Benedictines have been involved in the education of Bahamians for decades and at Subiaco we are honored to keep that tradition. The Prime Minister graciously signed the photo, and Br. Sebastian will deliver that to our academy when he returns to campus for the Christmas holiday.

WE REMEMBER, from this photo, our beloved late Fr Aaron who dressed as St Nicholas years ago in 2010, and mesmerized the school children of St. Joseph Catholic School in Paris, AR with his gift of storytelling. Shown here are two of our current Subiaco students, Hasten King (class of 2024) and Griffin Frederick (class of 2025). Our local community, school, and students are very blessed by all of the monks here at Subiaco Abbey. From all here at Subiaco Academy, Happy Feast of St Nicholas! (photo from Denise Forst)

ADVENT WREATH BLESSING 2023 happened at a school wide prayer service today in the lobby of the Main Building. Dcn. Roy Goetz, Chaplain of Subiaco Academy, led the service, along with visiting alum Dcn. Cody Eveld, Class of 2014. Dcn. Cody addressed the students before the service began, affirming them in their brotherhood and evident appreciation of one another. He went on to say that he cherished the brotherhood he felt at Subiaco as a student, and looks forward to the similar opportunity and sentiment as he enters the Little Rock diocesan priesthood in May 2024. May we prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The 11A retreat at Long Pool was a wonderful day off campus. The bus ride over provided time to read and reflect on the Benedictine virtue of humility. Once on site, we had an open sharing of thoughts about what humility means for us day to day. A couple of brave/crazy souls took a swim and everyone enjoyed lunch and S'mores over the campfire.
