As a core group of brothers, our love for each other and Subiaco goes much deeper than just the financial aspect. As a “Band of Brothers”, we are there for each other in any situation that may arise in our individual lives. That is one core ingredient as to why this group will continue to prevail for many years to come. In the following paragraph illustrates one of many fine examples of how you can always count on your fellow Subiaco alumni, “Band of Brothers," to be there when you need them the most.
In the early summer of 2011, Ralph Bock ’56 was notified of a heart condition and the results were not good. Ralph had extremely high blockage in his arteries. Carla, Ralph’s wife, contacted Dr. E.J. Chauvin ’77 and spoke with his office assistants. They informed Carla it would be at least ten days before Dr. Chauvin could see Ralph. Phil Fredrich ’62 contacted Carla to get an update on Ralph’s condition. Phil suggested to Carla that the time period to see the doctor was too long and that serious consequences could happen if he waited. With Carla’s consent, Phil contacted Joe Spivey ’77 to help with this situation. Joe, who is classmates with Dr. Chauvin, a Heart Surgeon in Rogers, AR, contacted E.J. immediately. E.J. requested Ralph come to his office the next day. The following day, Ralph and Carla went to his office where E.J. observed and scheduled Ralph for surgery within a day or two. Ralph is recovering very well and following Dr. Chauvin’s orders.
This story is a fine example of how we stand behind each other as a “Band of Brothers.” You can clearly see that being part of this network offers much more than just graduating together; we are each other’s brother in Christ, in life, and as Trojans of Subiaco Academy!
