A Little about Me:
Prior to teaching here, I spent 30 wonderful years in medicine as a pediatric pathologist. Most of my work focused on the study of fetal and infant death and helping parents cope with their loss. My work included a lot of teaching and speaking to groups.
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about teaching here is watching students build their confidence. I tutored algebra in college, so I especially enjoy working with kids who think they can’t do math. Not only can they do it, but we have fun doing it, too! The same is true for Oral Communications. I love taking a group of kids quaking with stage fright and turning them into capable presenters. Even if they never learn to love public speaking, they know how to control their butterflies and give a well-constructed talk.
I also enjoy language arts. I was reared by a widowed mother who obtained a master’s degree in English, followed by a doctorate in English education. Books filled our home, and I entertained myself by reading the classics while Mom was busy with school. As an Oblate of Subiaco Abbey, I love my encore career, where I can share my Benedictine values with young people through my daily work.
