Andrea Cooper came to Subiaco after serving two years as an Admissions Counselor at Arkansas Tech University. During her time at Arkansas Tech, she counseled high school students in the Arkansas River Valley on the admission and scholarship application processes. She completed her MS in College Student Personnel in May 2014, and joined the Subiaco family later that year. Mrs. Cooper has been working with the Upward Bound program at Arkansas Tech University since 2013. Each summer she spends one month teaching a financial planning course to under-represented and underserved local high school students.
Mrs. Cooper and her husband, Tristan, have lived in the River Valley since college: “Growing up, I moved several times between Arkansas and Texas. As a child, I had always envisioned myself living in a metropolitan area, much like the area of Dallas where I grew up. My roots in Arkansas are very strong, and since moving back I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
Mrs. Cooper is no stranger to boarding life. She attended a residential high school for two years and has many memories of mandatory study hours, cafeteria duty, lights out, among other staples of boarding life: “I was hesitant to leave home and start new. I look back at my time as a boarding student and am grateful for the opportunity I had to develop my independence in preparation for college. I think our students at Subiaco benefit immensely from the brotherhood and comradery that exists here, and years from now I hope they have fond memories of theirs at Subiaco.”
In her spare time, Mrs. Cooper and her husband enjoy spending time outdoors, working on their house and traveling. They both enjoy learning about new cultures, their traditions and histories and hope to continue learning about, and exploring, unfamiliar parts of the world.
“As I embark on another school year at Subiaco, I am excited to be working among some of the brightest and most dedicated faculty members in our state. These individuals are committed to fostering the educational and personal growth of young men and inspire me in my own ambitions to do the same.”
